About

Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the internet!

My name is Katie, and I am a young wife and mother.

I value femininity, modesty, and tradition. I love the way that choosing to cover our heads expresses those values.

I learned to sew as a young teenager, and I started with making dresses for myself and my sisters, because finding beautiful clothes can be hard on a budget! People always said I should sell the things I sewed, and it was always a dream of mine that someday I would do so.

After graduating highschool, I thought maybe I would give it a try. I chose to start selling headcoverings because up here in Canada there isn’t a lot of places that do that. When I started Silver Stitching, I was thinking of sewing headcoverings for Christian women. I had practiced headcovering for many years, and the idea of selling them seemed to be a good entry product into the world of commerce for me. For me, sewing connects me to history. As I start cutting into a few yards of linen fabric I often think of the thousands of women who have done the same things as I, for thousands of years.

In the past five years, some things have changed for me. I became Catholic (I was Protestant when I started my shop), I got married (and sewed my own wedding dress!), I moved, and I had a baby. These changes have all had effects on my shop, such as the addition of popular mantilla style chapel veils to my shop, as I learned about more styles of headcovering; or seasonal breaks from making new products based on pregnancies and busy seasons where I need to prioritize my family.

I hope you enjoy visiting my shop!
